A light born from a dream
“The inspiration for the design came from the northern sky — from the moon and planets.”
Heli Mäkiranta — founder QUU Design
Founder Heli Mäkiranta has worked as an interior architect since 2014, when she founded her own design studio. For years she had a quiet dream of creating her own lighting collection. When she couldn't find the perfect fixture for a client project, she decided to design it herself.
Her contemporary designs were soon noticed by other clients too. Encouraged by that response, Heli launched her own brand in 2018: QUU. The name was born from the shape of the light — in Finnish, QUU is pronounced like ‘moon’.
QUU Design's mission is to create future classics: recognisable, high-quality design lighting that becomes a treasured heirloom. “I had a vision of a brand that never promises too much but always gives you more than you expect,” says Heli.
More than light — it is emotion, sustainability, craftsmanship and connection.
